Igbajo Polytechnic Rector’s Cup 2025 Kicks Off in Grand Style

The much-anticipated Rector’s Cup 2025 commenced on Monday, June 30, at the Igbajo Polytechnic Sports Arena, ushering in a season of healthy rivalry and unity among the institution’s departments through football.

The opening ceremony witnessed a strong presence of the polytechnic’s leadership, including the Rector, Dr. Ganiyu Abimbola Adebisi, the Deputy Rector, Engr. Monsuru Okandeji, the Registrar, Mr. Olayiwola Onipede, the Librarian, Mr. Ibitoye, the Bursar, Mr. Akinlolu Abraham Ojo, and several other distinguished academic officers. Their presence added prestige to the occasion and reflected the institution's commitment to holistic student development.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Adebisi expressed profound appreciation to the organizing committee and everyone who contributed to the successful planning of the tournament.

"This tournament is not just about competition; it is about promoting friendship, unity, and sportsmanship among our students. I urge all participating teams to respect the rules of the game and display the highest level of discipline and integrity throughout the competition," the Rector said.

He further emphasized the long-term vision of the tournament.

“I am confident that this year’s edition will be better than the last, and it will continue to grow in subsequent years. Let us enjoy the games, celebrate teamwork, and most importantly, foster a lasting spirit of togetherness,” he added.

With a ceremonial kick of the ball, Dr. Adebisi officially launched the 2025 Rector’s Cup, signaling the start of the tournament to the delight of players and spectators.

The opening match featured the Department of Science Laboratory Technology (SLT) against the Department of Electrical/Electronics Engineering (ELECT). The SLT team showcased exceptional form and teamwork, securing a commanding 3–0 victory to mark the start of the competition.
