As the presidential race intensifies within the National Association of Business and Management Students (NABAMS), Igbajo Polytechnic, Igbajo, one of the aspirants, Oke John Oluwadesire, popularly known as Desire, has shared his vision and leadership agenda ahead of the forthcoming departmental election.
In a recent interview, Desire explained that his decision to contest for the apex position of the department was driven by a passion to serve and a desire to build on the existing legacy of past leaders. “Leadership, to me, is about advancing the collective interest of the students. I want to promote unity, enhance communication, and bring about positive transformation in the department,” he said.
Outlining his plans if elected, Desire pledged to focus on academic excellence, student engagement, and inclusive development. He emphasized the need to create platforms that allow students to thrive beyond the classroom. “My administration will prioritize empowerment programs, seminars, and constructive dialogue among students, staff, and management,” he stated.
He also expressed commitment to working collaboratively with fellow executives to ensure harmony and effective service delivery. “The success of any administration lies in teamwork. I intend to work closely with every member of the executive council and class representatives to ensure we move forward together,” he added.
On his relationship with staff and management, the aspirant promised to maintain open communication and mutual respect. “We will create channels through which student concerns can be communicated constructively to lecturers and management. Our goal is to ensure the voices of students are heard and respected.”
Desire also stressed the importance of transparency and accountability, noting that regular updates and feedback mechanisms would be integral to his administration. “Students deserve to know what their leaders are doing on their behalf. We will operate an open-door policy and provide timely reports on all matters affecting the department,” he said.
Speaking on his leadership experience, Desire revealed that he manages three registered businesses under his name, employing over 24 staff. He described this as a testament to his administrative capabilities. “I understand what it means to lead people, manage resources, and deliver results. I’m confident in my ability to lead this department effectively,” he affirmed.
He also praised the outgoing executives, describing them as excellent individuals who laid a strong foundation. “They have done remarkably well. I hope to build on their achievements and introduce fresh ideas that will further uplift our department,” he said.
In his final message to fellow students, Desire urged them to support a leadership built on integrity, vision, and inclusiveness. “This is not just about politics; it’s about purpose. I am ready to serve, and together, we can take NABAMS to greater heights,” he concluded.
The NABAMS election is expected to take place in some weeks time, and all eyes remain on aspirants like Desire as students prepare to elect a new set of leaders.
